NABU, CBA join forces: corruption has no place in post-war reconstruction of Ukraine

Detecting, combating, and preventing corrupt practices within projects related to Ukraine's recovery is an urgent challenge. In order to overcome it, Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau Semen Kryvonos and Head of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Stróżny have signed a cooperation agreement.

NABU detectives, in cooperation with SAPO prosecutors, uncovered a scheme of overpriced sales of coke-chemical fuel at the State Enterprise "Ukrspyrt". According to the investigation, in 2017-2020, Ukrspyrt announced tenders for the procurement of coke-chemical fuel, in which pre-selected private companies were declared winners. These companies supplied over 20,000 tons of fuel at prices higher than the market average. To create an illusion of transparency in the auctions, several fake participants were involved.

Former official suspected of massive coal scheme, environmental harm

The former acting CEO of the State Enterprise "Coal Company "Krasnolymanska" is suspected of causing UAH 336 million in losses and environmental harm exceeding UAH 210 million. The suspicion notice was served on May 25. Thanks to the timely actions of detectives and prosecutors, the corrupt scheme was exposed and stopped: in 2019, a court ordered to annul the contract between the state enterprise and an intermediary company. Thus, further damage to the state was prevented.

After the victory, significant international aid and investments will start coming to Ukraine for its reconstruction. Therefore, every investor must be confident that his rights are protected in the same way as in all civilized countries. This was stated by Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau Semen Kryvonos during his speech at the Ukrainian panel of the OECD Global Anti-Corruption Forum 2023 in Paris.
