Ukraine invited to join OECD Anti-Bribery Convention and Working Group on Bribery in International Business Transactions
The Working Group on Bribery of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has decided to invite Ukraine to join the Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions, as well as the OECD Working Group on Bribery.
This decision is the result of Ukraine’s consistent efforts in preventing corruption and aligning national legislation with international integrity standards, as well as effective cooperation with international partners, the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Economy, and the Office of the President.
Partners have commended Ukraine’s progress in developing an effective anti-corruption infrastructure and introducing transparency mechanisms. At the same time, Ukraine remains committed to further improving its legislation in line with the requirements of the Convention and OECD standards.
Joining the Convention will open new opportunities for Ukraine in the field of international legal cooperation, particularly in investigating corruption-related crimes, and will help strengthen the trust of international partners and the business community.
Ukraine continues to consistently integrate OECD anti-corruption standards into its national policy and move toward full membership in the organisation.
It should be recalled that in 2022, a Presidential Decree established a special working group bringing together representatives of the Government, law enforcement agencies, and Parliament. The Secretariat of the group was set up at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.
The OECD is an international organisation comprising 38 countries. It serves as an analytical centre and a developer of international standards used by the EU in policy formation. The processes of accession to the OECD and the EU complement and reinforce each other.
In 2022, the Government of Ukraine submitted an application for OECD membership.
