UAH 54 million to be reimbursed in Ukrzaliznytsia embezzlement case
Thanks to the effective work of NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors, over UAH 54.6 million embezzled in a scheme involving equipment procurement for JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" will be returned to the state budget under a special confiscation procedure.
The case involves an organized criminal group that ensured a predetermined company won a tender to supply power transformers to Ukrzaliznytsia. The equipment was purchased from a manufacturer in Uzbekistan via a shell company in Bulgaria and resold to Ukrzaliznytsia at an inflated price, causing nearly UAH 100 million in losses.
NABU detectives identified the illegally obtained funds in the company's accounts. Based on the evidence gathered, the court seized the funds and transferred them to ARMA for management.
The special confiscation of part of these funds became possible after a plea agreement was approved with one of the suspects involved in the scheme.
